The Idea...

Develop an integrated (web based) tertiary educational system, to distribute resources for educational institutions. Functionality to include; records management, enrollment, e-learning: Implement an online learning environment. Provide these functional modules in a manner which can be tacked on as and when required (modular). This will aid development. Cater for course delivery to students (clients) of many age groups who would be studying in multiple year levels. The spectrum of curriculum delivery varying from matrix at one end, to traditional at the other end.

This project requires : server; databases; browser interactive data entry; secure web tracking/logging of client interaction; online assessment; staff reports and diagnostics; installation guide for the project; test items used during development. Develop an on line diverse and dynamic interactive learning environment. Use existing open source technologies to build a fresh new web interface out to clients (the students). There are a large number of on line learning paradigms, some of which we use in our daily activities. Construct a different environment, re-developing pre-existing open source materials on the Linux platform to create the new paradigm.

Development environment; php, mysql, [ later... jsp, java, c, ... perhaps ... asp, vb, ms-access ] ~ Ideal: be ported to multiple platforms and for available any hardware mix - [ any [older(cheap)] pc can run various linux &/or earlier windowz [backward compatible]

However, it is highly desirable that the application will be portable enough to compile on a wide range of processors. Team worked with a range of boxes : x86 [386 to p3]; sgi [indy]... (whatever was at hand!)
